haha no im not painting my car. im getting my car painted at MAACO but doing the preparation myself so the paintjob comes out well. i heard from couple people that prepping your car is the hard part and also the most time consuming and the actually spraying is the easy part, so they do a pretty piece of big pooty job of prepping to get the car in and out.

OH I SEE....Do you have dings on your car as well? Time to bust out the Bondo. I'd would like to volunteer SUNNY to do all the prep work on your car...He really speaks highly of you Tammy . I honestly hope Maaco does a good job on your car. Are you changing the color? You might also want to remove all the rubber moldings around your windows prior to handing it over to Maaco. Good Luck!

Tammy,
I don't know if you really want to take on the prepping the car. It's a lot of work. I did some research before. You can get some books on it at the library. You don't necessarily need to sand down to the metal, but your going to need a lot of time and patience to do it. If you decide to do it Good Luck. IMO just let them do it. I don't think the minmal amount of $ your going to save is worth your time.

anyone have experience masking and wetsanding car??? i can use some help please. Tammy From my experience, if you know your car inside out, it's better to take off parts and spray them. Prepping & detailing is the HARD PART. Make sure you have the right tools also. Labor is a pain in the AZZ and it's a nice workout Prepping the car for spray: Sand off the top layer (usually the clearcoat layer). You don't have to sand it down to bare metal. Just as long as the top coat is off. After that is done, use "GOOD" primer and not the cheap generic stuff. Do about 3-5 coats. Spraying & Clear coating: Make sure that person knows how to spray. Do about 3-5 coats also. Wetsanding: I suggest doing it by hand. Soaking some 3M wet/dry sandpaper into a bucket of water. It's safer if your not experienced with a high-powered buffer. Sand it with light pressure and try to take off all the little particles thats in the paint. Make it as smooth as silk..... ***MOST IMPORTANT PART*** Buffing: USE A HIGH-POWERED BUFFER & NOT THOSE CHEAP ONES FROM WAL-MART & OTHER CHAIN STORES! MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO USE ONE, OTHERWISE SAY "BYE-BYE" TO YOUR PAINT JOB. HEY NICE BUFFING JOB CAN REALLY DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF YOUR PAINTJOB. And thats it!! Need anymore help with what brand names to get, just ask.... PS. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF AEROSOL CANS. IT WILL MESS UP YOUR PAINT JOB BIG-TIME.

i went into maaco's yesterday to talk with the manager, and i told him that i wanted a very good quality paintjob...which is like 550 or somethin bucks. and i asked some questions about it, like the process, and preparation...(im just very concerned about prepping). He said that they usually don't do wet sanding, but they use the finest textured sand paper and said it will be nice and silky smooth. then they go wash the car to get the dirt and particles off, then they buff it, and afterwards paint it. i asked him about like how the outcome of the paintjob is, and what if they mess up or something, and he said, 'the quality of the paint job is awesome, i hired the best paint crew, and they do a great job. although sometimes there will be a minute (pronounced My-nute hah) dust spots'. But he did mention if i get him customers he'll give me some sort of discount on future services so i told him that my friends are planning to get their car painted there, but they want to see how well they do on my car before bringing it in' (i lied) but hopefully that'll make him do an extra good job on mine. ;D anywho, i guess i should just let them do the prepping? im going to take off the rubber linings and the lights

well piece of big poo, i should just go drive around with multi-colored fenders huh?
i'll just take my chances there--i know some kids who got their car painted by them, it actually came out very nice. yeah, its a tough decision, but how will i survive without taking risks? plus, i can't afford to get my car painted at other places, im trying to save up for my b18.

People talk alot of smack about MAACO, but, it really depends on who's working on it. Here's a picture of one of my cousins ride from WI...and YES, it got painted by MAACO...Looks nice in person also. Only cost him $600....

the color of the car is going to be white--im not sure what shade of white, but im going to go see what colors of white they have. the guy i talked with worked with a lot of imports, i might get my door handles shaved, and have the grill part molded onto the hood to give it a mercedes look when you pop the hood. not sure yet. but anyways, will, speaking of food, i just ate mexican food and farted. my bad. ;D
